Potomac River Run Marathon 1/21/2007 News

This is our first e-newsletter of 2007; we'll keep you up-to-date virtually throughout the season.

Currently, we have 220 signed up. Our permit limit is 300, so we expect to fill before the end of January. If you have running friends who want to join you in the marathon or half, please let them know they can still sign up until we close entries. See www.pvtc.org/marathon for full information

Our "EldorWest" marathon training program that started in November moves into "second session" this weekend with a long run on Saturday, January 20, at 9 am, on our course, starting from Belle Haven Park and heading south to Riverside Park and back. The next run on January 27 is 9 am, at Dunn Loring Metro Station. See www.marathoncharitypartners.org/training/ for full information and future runs.

Come test out our course and meet our coach Jim Kreutel, and please consider joining our program.

If you want to sign up for the remaining 14 weeks of the session, it's $40 for ACF members, $50 for non-members. We will send a $10 "signing bonus" gift certificate from Georgetown Running Company to the next 10 people who sign up for either the training program or for the May 6 Potomac River Run Marathon or Half Marathon.

If you're coming for the marathon from out of town -- or you just want a nice place to stay the night before the marathon, please consider our host hotel, Courtyard by Marriott, 2700 Eisenhower Avenue. Our special rate is $99 for the nights before and after the marathon. Call 1-800-321-2211 or 703-329-2323 and use code PRR-PRR-A or see http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/WASAL?groupCode=PRRPRRA&app=resvlink

One of our participants is running her first half-marathon -- perhaps the first half-marathon ever run by a liver transplant survivor. Terri Lynne Willis AKA "Peach" is Lynne Willis aka Peach, a 15-year liver transplant survivor, is training for the U.S. Transplant Games. Read her story at http://hometown.aol.com/terri7291/page3.html

Coming from the farthest away is Ralm Jung of Riverside, California, who ran 3:50 at Los Angeles Marathon. Our participants range in age from 17 to 70, from 15 states plus DC.

Georgetown Running Company, Glory Days Grill, Honest Tea, and Whole Foods Arlington have signed on again as sponsors, more to follow. If your company wants to sponsor the marathon & half, please let us know.

At Arlington Cooperation Foundation's recent board meeting, the officers were all re-elected -- Karla McDuffie, president; Dr. Bernard Etherly and Nick Panebianco, vice-presidents; James Scarborough, treasurer; and Jay Jacob Wind, secretary. The other two directors are John Steitz and Liza Recto. We are pleased to serve you, and we look forward to running with you!
